Position Overview
The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school, field trips, and other school-related activities. This role requires strong attention to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to maintain order and professionalism while transporting students.
Key Responsibilites
Student Transportation & Safety
Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes and schedules.
Pick up and drop off students at designated locations.
Ensure all students follow safety procedures while boarding, riding, and exiting the bus.
Maintain student discipline and address behavioral issues in accordance with school policies.
Vehicle Operation & Maintenance
Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the school bus.
Report any mechanical issues, safety concerns, or needed repairs immediately.
Keep the bus clean, organized, and safe at all times.
Obey all traffic laws and transportation regulations.
Communication & Professionalism
Communicate respectfully with students, parents, teachers, and school staff.
Report incidents, delays, or emergencies promptly to the transportation supervisor.
Provide a positive and welcoming environment for all riders
Qualifications & Requirements
Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with school bus and passenger endorsements (as required by state law).
Clean driving record and ability to pass background checks.
Ability to pass a DOT physical exam and drug/alcohol screenings.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with children of various ages.
Reliability, punctuality, and strong attention to safety.
Preferred Skills
Previous experience driving commercial or passenger vehicles.
CPR or first-aid certification (optional, depending on district).
Familiarity with local school districts and route maps.
Work Environment
Early morning and afternoon shifts, with possible mid-day field trip assignments.
Exposure to varying weather conditions.
Responsibility for managing student behavior while driving.
