Position Overview

The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school, field trips, and other school-related activities. This role requires strong attention to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to maintain order and professionalism while transporting students.

Key Responsibilites

Student Transportation & Safety

  • Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes and schedules.

  • Pick up and drop off students at designated locations.

  • Ensure all students follow safety procedures while boarding, riding, and exiting the bus.

  • Maintain student discipline and address behavioral issues in accordance with school policies.

Vehicle Operation & Maintenance

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the school bus.

  • Report any mechanical issues, safety concerns, or needed repairs immediately.

  • Keep the bus clean, organized, and safe at all times.

  • Obey all traffic laws and transportation regulations.

Communication & Professionalism

  • Communicate respectfully with students, parents, teachers, and school staff.

  • Report incidents, delays, or emergencies promptly to the transportation supervisor.

  • Provide a positive and welcoming environment for all riders




Qualifications & Requirements

  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with school bus and passenger endorsements (as required by state law).

  • Clean driving record and ability to pass background checks.

  • Ability to pass a DOT physical exam and drug/alcohol screenings.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with children of various ages.

  • Reliability, punctuality, and strong attention to safety.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience driving commercial or passenger vehicles.

  • CPR or first-aid certification (optional, depending on district).

  • Familiarity with local school districts and route maps.

Work Environment

  • Early morning and afternoon shifts, with possible mid-day field trip assignments.

  • Exposure to varying weather conditions.

  • Responsibility for managing student behavior while driving.
