Position Overview
The Van Aide supports the Van Driver in providing safe, reliable transportation for students, seniors, and non-medical clients. This role focuses on assisting passengers during pick-up, transport, and drop-off while ensuring safety, comfort, and proper supervision throughout the trip.
Key Responsibilites
Passenger Assistance & Supervision
Assist passengers—including children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—in boarding and exiting the vehicle safely.
Ensure all passengers are properly seated and seatbelts or safety restraints are secured.
Provide supervision and maintain order during transportation.
Offer support to passengers with mobility needs or behavioral challenges.
Monitor passengers and report any concerns to the driver or supervisor.
Safety & Compliance
Assist the driver during emergency procedures, evacuations, or unexpected situations.
Support proper loading/unloading procedures at schools, homes, medical offices, and program locations.
Help ensure compliance with transportation safety standards and company policies.
Maintain awareness of passenger needs and potential safety risks.
Communication & Support
Communicate effectively and respectfully with passengers, families, and school or facility staff.
Report incidents, behavioral concerns, or safety issues promptly.
Assist the driver with navigating directions, using communication devices, or updating logs (as permitted by policy).
Maintain confidentiality of passenger information (including HIPAA-related guidelines for NEMT clients).
Vehicle Cleanliness & Organization
Assist in keeping the van clean, organized, and sanitary.
Help the driver with daily checks to ensure the vehicle is safe and ready for transport.
Secure equipment, belongings, and mobility aids during the route.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Experience working with children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities.
Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
Strong communication, patience, and customer service skills.
Ability to remain attentive and calm in stressful or busy environments.
Physically able to assist passengers and perform light lifting (up to 25–50 lbs).
Preferred Skills
CPR/First Aid certification (preferred but not required).
Experience in non-medical or school transportation settings.
Familiarity with safety protocols and special-needs passenger care.
Work Environment
Morning, mid-day, and afternoon shifts may be required.
Frequent boarding, exiting, bending, and assisting passengers.
Exposure to weather conditions and varying traffic environments.
