Van Driver – Non-Medical & School Transportation

$14-$17/per hr

Position Overview

The Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting clients and students to and from schools, appointments, programs, and other authorized destinations. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, punctuality, customer service, and professional conduct while transporting both youths and adults.

Key Responsibilites

Safe Transportation

  • Safely operate a passenger van along assigned routes and schedules.

  • Transport students, seniors, and non-medical clients to schools, appointments, and other approved locations.

  • Assist passengers in entering and exiting the vehicle safely, including those with mobility challenges.

  • Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts and follow safety rules.

Client & Student Care

  • Provide courteous, patient, and respectful service at all times.

  • Offer assistance to passengers who need support walking, sitting, or securing mobility devices (if applicable).

  • Monitor passenger behavior to maintain a safe and calm environment.

Vehicle Operation & Maintenance

  • Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (fuel, brakes, tires, lights, first-aid kit, etc.).

  • Keep the van clean, sanitized, and well-maintained at all times.

  • Report mechanical issues or safety concerns immediately.

  • Follow all traffic laws and company/state transportation policies.

Documentation & Communication

  • Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage reports, and passenger records.

  • Communicate delays, incidents, or emergencies to the dispatcher or supervisor.

  • Use company communication devices (tablet, app, radio) as required.

  • Follow privacy guidelines when transporting clients (HIPAA for NEMT).


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Must meet state and company requirements for transporting students and NEMT clients.

  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screenings, and (if required) DOT physical.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills.

  • Ability to work with children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

  • Punctual, responsible, and safety-focused.

Preferred Skills

  • CPR or First Aid certification (preferred, not required).

  • Experience with non-medical transportation or school van driving.

  • Knowledge of GPS navigation and route planning.

Work Environment

  • Morning, mid-day, and afternoon shifts.

  • Driving in varying traffic and weather conditions.

  • Physical ability to assist passengers and perform vehicle checks.
